Seneca announces new Artisan Centre
for King Campus
by Garry Conway
Seneca’s Continuing Education
announced its first workshop
series at the King Artisan Centre
from July 6 – July 17. The series of
6 artisan workshops includes:
Mosaic Mania, Jewellery Design
Techniques, Acrylic Painting, Seasonal
Watercolour, Photography
— The Natural Environment, and
Stained Glass — Copper Foil
Technique. Each workshop, led by
professional artisans, runs over 5
days, Monday to Friday 9am –
4pm.
This summer’s workshop leaders
will include two King artists;
Nancy Jones will be presenting the
Acrylic Painting workshop from
July 6 to the 8th and nature photographer
Garry Conway will be
leading the Photography workshop
focusing on the natural environment
from July 13 to the 17th.
Many ASK Studio Tour King visitors
will have seen both Nancy and
Garry’s work at previous Studio
Tours or have taken workshops
with them at the King Township
Museum or Libraries.
The Artisan Centre is modeled
after the Halliburton School of the
Arts which runs a very successful
arts program throughout the summer.
Seneca’s Artisan Centre plans
to run art programs in the Fall and
Spring as well as the summer
workshops. For artists the Centre
provides another well publicized
venue for artists to present workshops.
For participants the Artisan
Centre will provide opportunities
to explore their own creativity in a
variety of media or hone their
skills within a chosen discipline.
Residence in Toronto and the GTA
will now have easy access to continuing
education in the arts at the
incredibly beautiful King Campus
on the Oak Ridges Moraine.
The King Artisan Centre
located at Seneca’s King Campus
(Dufferin and 15th Sideroad) is
perfect for a creative retreat.
Overnight accommodations are
available onsite and is easily
accessed by public transit.
The new Artisan Centre compliments
the ASK Festival King’s
“Discover the Creative You”
workshops where participants can
experiment with a wide variety of
creative endeavors.

Power of Women United
by Donna Kamiel-Forster
The sub-title of this book says it all. “Confidence
Born of Strength and Wisdom.” Each contributor,
and there are twenty, all from different
walks of life, imparts her wisdom to give the
reader the strength to become the best she can
be.
From topics like the power of networking,
gaining confidence, thinking outside the box,
leaps of faith, taking action, valuing yourself,
embracing technology, using personal gifts
and building a support network, the twenty
stories told by real women who have all
been successful in both their careers and
their personal lives, will give the reader the
boost needed to be just as successful.
Whatever your personal strengths,
(intriguing, vivacious, organized, confident),
you will identify with these
women, and discover how to use your
strengths to be successful in all areas of
your life. If you’re already there, you
will recognize yourself and be reassured
that you’re on the right path.
Local speaker, Marianne Ford has a
chapter in The Power of Women
United, and the book is available at
local bookstore Forster’s Book Garden
(newly relocated to 55 Healey Road Unit 4, Bolton). |
