Black Creek Pioneer Village is pleased to announce the opening of Black Creek Historic Brewery – an authentic working reproduction of a 19th century brewery set in the heart of a beautifully recreated 1860s’ Ontario village.

Toronto’s newest tourist destination uses traditional tools, techniques and recipes to recreate the ales, stouts and
porters enjoyed in Upper Canada before Confederation. Because everything is done by hand on a small scale, the Black Creek Historic Brewery provides a unique
opportunity for learning about beer and the brewing process. Visitors can complete the experience with a glass of Black Creek ale in the Brewery restaurant and pub.

The Black Creek Historic Brewery is open daily to visitors. Tours are offered twice each day where people can learn
the whole story of how beer was made, starting with how the ingredients were grown, right through to sampling the
beer from oak barrels. Visitors can see where the grain was milled, how the barrels were made and even see hops growing in Village gardens.

Committed to sourcing all ingredients locally, as it would have been in 19th century Ontario, the Brewery will also
start growing and malting barley on-site over the next few years.

“It’s not every day that a historic brewery opens in Toronto,” said Rick Sikorski, marketing and communications
manager for Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA), which operates Black Creek Pioneer Village. “This is more than a brewery; it’s a unique opportunity to step back into the past.”

The Brewery is located in Half Way House Inn at Black Creek Pioneer Village, a restored inn built in 1849. One half of a large downstairs room is used for the brewery, the other half operates as a pub. Visitors can enjoy a pint in the pub, or with a meal in the adjoining Black Creek Historic Brewery Restaurant. The Restaurant is freshly renovated and offers an all-new menu focusing on local foods. Suggested food pairings are included with a beer list which features in-house ales and selections from other Ontario craft breweries.

Along with a full slate of special programming through the summer and fall, Black Creek Historic Brewery is available
as a one-of-a-kind venue for corporate events and meetings, family parties, wedding receptions, or any other type of private function.

Black Creek Historic Brewery has a website: www.blackcreekbrewery.ca and a blog http://blackcreekbrewery.wordpress.com where visitors can find out about upcoming events, and learn about
the Brewery, the beers, and the unique historical significance of beer in 19th century Ontario.

“The history of brewing in Ontario offers a window into so much of our regional heritage. It touches on the history of agriculture, technology, industry, social customs and local culinary tradition,” said Marty Brent, Manager of Black Creek Pioneer Village. “And it connects a product enjoyed by thousands of Ontario residents still today, with the early days of European settlement. Beer is a living link to Ontario’s past.”

The Brewery is open daily through the end of the year (except December 25 and 26) and is included with general admission to Black Creek Pioneer Village: $15 for adults, $14 for seniors and students, and $11 for children 5-14. Guided tours of the brewery, including samples, are offered daily for an additional $4. Black Creek ales and porters can also be
enjoyed in the new Black Creek Historic Brewery Restaurant and Pub, or brought home in returnable 1.9 litre “growlers.”
Black Creek Pioneer Village is located at 1000 Murray Ross Parkway, Toronto (one block east of Jane St., south off Steeles Avenue, right next to York University). The Village is south east of Hwy 7 and Hwy 400. Parking is available on site. For more information on the Black Creek Historic Brewery, visit www.blackcreekbrewery.ca, or call 416 736-1733.
