Summer Remembered
Every summer must come to an end and with it brings
the beginning of fall. However, before we can make this
leap the King Township Public Library must reflect on a
summer that is not easily forgotten!
It was a busy summer filled with laughter, chaos and
lots of reading! The libraries of King Township offered
over 15 weekly programmes for children and youth
throughout the summer months at the King City, Nobleton,
Schomberg and Ansnorveldt libraries. As always,
the majority of our programmes are free of charge and
all have literacy at their core.
On a weekly basis children and their families participated
in events such as; Parachute Club, Making Friendship
Bracelets, Born to Read, Preschool Story Hour,
Movie Fridays, Writer’s Club for teens, Sewing Camp,
Computer Camp, Summer Reading Club meetings and
many more! The ultimate goal of the library is to keep
children and their families reading over the summer time.
The Summer Reading Club theme is at the center of
all the activities offered at the library and is sponsored by
TD Canada Trust. This year’s theme was AGENT 009
with weekly programmes for both younger and older
children. Each week the children got to crack codes,
create detective gear, solve a mystery, create top secret
potions and gather clues. The key to this club was that
the children read as many books as possible and with
each book read they received one ballot entered into our
bi-weekly prize draws and then for the grand prizes at
the end of the summer! The grand prizes were donated
by the Toronto Zoo, The Royal Ontario Museum and
Medieval Times. The library would like to express their
deepest thanks to these organizations for their generosity
and support for our library’s children and youth
programming. We would also like to thank our terrific
summer students, Maggie Hall, Athena Sotirakos and
Melyssa Tari, who helped make this another incredibly
successful summer. The students are off to university in
the fall.
