I thought that it would be fun to chat about some of my favorite books and exciting new titles that can be found at your library – PAGE TURNERS! How many of us have had the experience of reading a book and not being able to put it down? I certainly have and more times than I can count! Since starting out in the field of Children’s and Young Adult Librarianship, I
have had the privilege and pleasure of reading some terrific children’s and teen novels.

I hear many parents asking; “where were these amazing stories when I was growing up?”

Children’s literature has undoubtedly taken a turn to the fantasy/adventure genre with the abundance of junior works making the transition to the movie
screen. Some of these titles include; Holes by Louis Sacher, Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling and the most recent addition; The Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black.

What motivates a child or teen to want to read? Your child may be an avid reader or perhaps they read periodically due to suggestions from friends or
teachers, or perhaps they have just seen the movie and it has sparked their interest in the book. Whatever the reason maybe the ultimate goal is to
foster a love of reading!

As the Children’s and Young Adult Librarian at the King Township Public Library, one of my roles is to provide suggestions or introduce to children, teens and parents “the next best read.” I have composed a
list of titles, that by no means encompasses all the great reads out there, but nonetheless a starting place to help you and your family navigate through
both children’s and teen’s popular literature. I have chosen five titles for each of the three categories, all available at one of the four branches of the King Township Public Library. These categories are; Picture Books, Junior chapter books and Young Adult books. I hope you enjoy!
