Records for York Centre District Women’s Institute show that there was a branch of the WI called King Ridge. Fiona Cowles was the lucky recipient of this branch’s Tweedsmuir books found while a fellow was clearing his mom’s house. Although the King Ridge WI lasted only a
few years, the records they kept tell about the farms in the area and the story of the Mount St Francis community, a story which will be shared in a future issue of Tapestry.

Although this branch was not active for long, its Tweedsmuir book contain gems of information such as these tidbits from the current events of 1956... “ around home (King Twp), the government has decided to take over the Humber Trail near Nobleton for reforestation program.”

“ 400 acres of land on the 6th concession of King to be sold and turned into a racing care track.”

"Mrs Elton Armstrong hosted a tea for Mrs T Ewan (nee Miss Anna P Lewis) and attended by WI members, Mrs McCormick (President) and Mrs Stanley Carson (District Director) ."
