Schomberg Lions 60th Anniversary
On April 14th the Schomberg Lions celebrate their 60th year of serving the community with a Charter night Dinner and Dance at the Schomberg Arena. Some highlights of the last 60 years:
• In the 70's the Lions were involved in the funding and Construction of the Schomberg Arena
• In 1989 the Lions donated $10,000 to the victims of the Schomberg Gas Explosion on Main Street
• In excess of $ 35,000.00 dollars has been donated for renovations to the Schomberg Community Hall
• Contributions have been made to purchase playground equipment at both Schomberg schools.
• The Ball Park on the Fair grounds and the overhead lighting.was funded by the Lions
• They organised the first boy Scout Group in Schomberg and helped build the Club house at the Fair Grounds
• Regular donations to the C.N.I.B. camp for the blind, the camp for the Deaf, and the Dialysis Camp at Dorset Ontario.
• In 1982 saw the completion of the Kitchen Breedon Manor,
(Schomberg Lions Club Non-Profit Housing Corp)
• Donations are made annually to the Schomberg Skating Club, the
Girl Guides, Soccer and Baseball organisations and the Schomberg
Cougars, and many other Youth Groups
• This year a defibrillator has been purchased for the Community Hall
