A Note from the Editor...

Celebrations abound in King this summer. The Nobleton Women's Institute is 100 years old and these ladies have made significant contributions to this township. Thank you to Joan Jackaman and her team for compiling this feature for Tapestry.

Nobleton/King City Horticulture Society is celebrating its 50th anniversary. A celebratory cake will be cut at the ASK Soiree July 6th (see page 23). Members of parliament will be on hand to congratulate these groups. Maple Leaf Cricket Club of King City celebrates its 60th. See what's up at the cricket field on page 7.

Our contributors continue to shine with interesting information for us to read. Thank you to everyone!

Once again you will find an exhausting list of great events in and around King for summer. This list is made possible by Arts Society King who collate this information right up to deadline for printing - I do encourage you to visit the library website
www.king-library.on.ca. Click on Online Community Calendar. Enjoy the Summer.

The Place to Look: King Township Public Library’s Community Calendar

The King Township Public Library has an Online
Community Calendar on the Library’s Web site: www.king-library.on.ca, and we’re eager for more groups to use its capabilities.

It provides a place where the Library and local non-profit community groups can post upcoming events. Many of these groups have started posting their events to the calendar, including the King Township Museum, the Historical Society, Arts Society King, Cold Creek, Dufferin Marsh, King Township Archives and the Nobleton Women’s Institute among others.

King is the first Library in Canada to use the calendar and allow community groups to post their own information. Our calendar was featured at the recent Public Library Association conference in Minneapolis, the largest conference of its kind in the world.

The Online Community Calendar is easy to use. Through its features it is possible to colour code events by community group. This makes it easier for viewers to quickly know who the event is sponsored by and where the event is to be held.
The calendar also includes the option for viewers to receive an e-mail reminding them about specific events that are up and coming.

We are very pleased with our purchase and thank township Council for providing us with the support to purchase this amazing resource and to Art Society King for their support. If you’d like to have your event posted the calendar please contact Mr. Mark Cornell at the Library 905-833-5101.
