Quality Community Theatre

by Wendy Soloduik

The Blackhorse Village Players theatre, nestled away in the north west corner of King Township, is a gem awaiting your discovery.

Now in their 37th season, this small community theatre has something to offer everyone, including those seeking urbanquality performances without the drive.

With a focus on local talent, the Blackhorse is non-profit theatre showing five plays per year with their season running from November until June. A children's holiday production is held around Christmas.

The plays shown at the Blackhorse are chosen by an elected volunteer committee, and cover a broad range of genres. Each play is performed over a five week period and has 10 showings, including afternoon matinees, evening performances and reduced cost previews.

“It’s a family, that’s what it is,” said Blackhorse Village Players vice president, Michelle Lanoue. “What makes the Blackhorse so special? Well for starters the Community Theatres of Central
Ontario recognized us two years ago with the award for Best Community Theatre. Beyond that, our theatre has a welcoming, homey feel, and who knows, you might even recognize someone you know up on stage. It’s a unpretentious environment here, but to say it’s just a community theatre is almost belittling, we put on quality performances.”

The Blackhorse Theatre has also been nominated for several other awards including those for costume and set design.

Individual, group and seasons tickets are available by calling 905 880-5002, or by visiting the Blackhorse Theatre on-line at www.blackhorse.ca. Parking is always free.
